Q: Is a 1991 Toyota MR2 a good car for how old it is?
I found an Mr2 for $3,800 with 198,000 miles on it. It says it has power steering, Windows, Door Locks, and Mirrors. I would like to find out how many more miles the car lives and if it is a good price. Just because it is a Toyota it is possible that it can die soon. I want experts to tell me generally at how many miles is thier breaking point
A: You just can’t go wrong with Toyota!!! I would check the Kelly Blue Book, just to be safe. Especially with that many miles!! I have been reading really great reviews on the MR2, including the 1991. With proper care, those older Toyotas have been known to go 300K miles!!! I have heard that on all Toyotas the timing chain should be replaced every 90k for ultimate performance and reliability!
Q: Are there any tricks to replacing the engine lid release cable on a 2000 Toyota MR2???
I have a 2000 Toyota MR2 and need to replace the engine lid (rear hood) release cable. I see that it runs through the passenger side firewall, then behind the seats somewhere, and down through the driver side sill panel. Is there any tricks that anyone knows to make this as painless as possible? I can’t find any repair manuals for this car either. If anyone knows where to get one or who publishes one, please help with that too. Thanks!!!
A: There is a bulletin on this vehicle from back in 2001 that relates to a spring kit available to allow easier opening of the latch assembly. The bulletin # is B0021-01. Your Toyota dealer can get you the parts required. As far as the replacement of the cable just start at the release and follow the cable if you can. Pull all panels required to access. Some can be difficult to get to so if you can use the old one to pull the new one through areas you can’t get to.
Q: Does anyone have labor times/alldata access to see how many labor hours to swap engine on 2001 Toyota MR2?
I purchased a 2001 Toyota Mr2 spyder, engine was blown (no oil). I’m curious to know how much labor time I’ll be looking at to put a new longblock and time for a shortblock in the car. Their all 5spd. 1.8L. Thanks!

i bought a 2001 toyota mr2 spyder beecause i plan on moving down south after graduation, but i need to make it through this one winter. i live in michigan so the winters can get pretty severe sometimes, if i get some nice winter tires or chain my tires or something do you think ill be able to make it through the winter?
A: Yes.
Just get some Snow Tires and be smart about it.
It’s a Mid/Rear engine set up so all the Weight is over the Tires so you’ll get decent Traction.

My husband finally was able to get my MR2 through inspection. I just need a new windshield but our Toyota dealer isn’t able or willing to order one. My husband drove around all over Mushriff but failed. It seems that I am the only person in the UAE owning a MR2.

Toyota Dealers are no help because for some strange reason they can’t order one.
A: On several occasions I’ve seen people driving MR2’s here but with intact windshields.;)

Perhaps other places like one of Dubai’s scrap yards got one that fits, or there are a bunch of after market auto shops on Etihad road & airport road (area between Deira city center mall and Hor al Anz ~ Sharjah road. Also more such shops in Al Qusais, Al Qouz (area behind auto dealers on SZR), & in Sharjah industrial area.

On the opposite side of the road from the old Hyatt Regency in Deira there are some car detailing & accessories shops near Naif road. I am not sure if they have windshields though.

I think it is worth trying Monika’s suggestion , better to get from Japan. But if all fails perhaps you could get one of the glass Plexiglas factories to custom cut their product to fit the windshield place. It is amazing they can custom bend house & window glass to any shape with special heat gun they have.

A: There are Toyota Motor Clubs everywhere.

I bought a 1st gen MR2 the first year they came out (mid ’80’s) and I bought
a 1st gen the last year they were produced. What I great car. It drove and rode
and was as comfortable as a mid-size family sedan. I wish I had kept both those cars.
I bought them both new from the dealer. I was just a car trading fool 25 years ago.

Q: When replacing the clutch on a 1985 toyota mr2 does the engine and tranny need to be removed?
There is a tight space back there. Is there a way of replacing the clutch on an aw11 MR2 with out removing the engine and transmission?
U guys have any tips or pics on how I could remove the tranny w/ out the engine?
A: you can remove the trans with leaving the engine in but you need a something to support the engine up top cause your removing and engine mount. a host would be great thou.

A: 1985 was the model year but they were introduced early and actually were being sold in 1984 as 1985 vehicles.

Q: Can I change a headlight assembly on a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder without removing the bumper?
I have a headlight assembly that needs to be replaced on my 2000 MR2 Spyder. The auto mechanic wants to charge me $350 for the assembly PLUS $100 per hour for labor. He says the bumper may have to come off and if it does then the time to replace the assembly might go from 1 hour to 3 hours. Sounds like a lot to me! Thanks for your answer.

DONT pay that much for a mechanic to do that!! Advance can lend a helping hand and pretty much tell you how to do it.
