Q: Is a Toyota 4Runner better than a Ford Explorer for a first car?
I’m looking at first cars and I’m looking at:
2003 Toyota 4Runner Limited V6 with Nav, Leather, Sunroof with 86,000 miles for $13,900
or a
2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 with Leather,Sunroof with 76,000 miles for $11,980
Neither have a third row seat but I really like the Explorer but wouldn’t mind a 4Runner because they are nice. Any opinions?

There is a reason Explorer’s are also known as Exploder’s. lol. We actually used to have one…Eddie Bauer editions as well. It was on the fritz constantly.

I’m looking for the dimensions of a subwoofer box for Ford Explorer Sport Trac’s because I have built custom boxes and want to build these instead of spending an ass load for one box.
A: I would need to know the year. It has changed a bit recently. Go to links for custom trucks with the year you are looking at.
Of course it is much less expensive to build your own, providing you know how to build speaker enclosures.

A: Yes, you’ll have to take off the door panels to get to the hardware, and linkage/cables to take the door handle parts off.

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport (Not the Sport Trac just the regular Explorer.) I am wanting to hook up a amp and have to run wires from the battery to the amp located in the back. I am having trouble finding a hole in which wires already run through and into the engine. Is there anywhere I can run wires from my amp to the battery through an existing hole in the firewall?
A: What i did was (on a ford mustang) ran it through the front quarter panel, and then ran it underneath the body panels. A lot easier, and no holes has to be cut. But i was using some 1000+ watt amp wires. So the wire was like 1/4-1/2″ thick. I think doing what I did would work best. There usually are several holes that lead from the engine compartment to the doors, and then run it under the trim to the amp.

I have a 1993 Ford Explorer with push button four wheel drive. When you push the button nothing happens. I am not a mechanic so I would like a ball park of how much I would have to pay to get it fixed.

I just helped my mom repo a 98 ford explorer. We couldn’t get the one and only key back from the buyer. If i go to the dealer I have to buy 2 keys and have them both programmed. Can i just replace the ignition? Or is the key based anti theft tied into the computer?
A: It will take 2 new keys, and the dealer must program them. The upside is, at that time they will delete any other keys that are currently programmed, so it can’t be re-repoed by the last key holder.

A: get a 97 and up with the 4.0 sohc, it has good gas mileage and almost the same power as the v8..

I’m buying a 1994 Ford Explorer, 4 door. I’m a little paranoid, so, can someone tell me what years/models the Ford Exploreres were “exploders”?
A: In 1994 they had a reputation to roll over easy because of the extra 600 pounds added and higher ground clearance but most of the time it was because unsafe driving. Then came the exploding Firestone tires, here Firestone and ford blamed eachother. But it was Firestone that had defective tires, the tires exploded or caught fire. Ford also had explorer’s with goodyear tires and nothing happen with them. If this explorer doesn’t have Firestone tires, and everthing is in good condition then you should be alright. – try taking it to get checked by a mechanic before you buy it.
